MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology: What is it about?

MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology includes everything related to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental and maxillofacial diseases.

Knowledge gain

Theoretical, Clinical and practical knowledge of all oral mucosal lesions, skeletal involvement of maxillofacial region, diagnostic procedures pertaining to them and latest information of imaging modules.

Skills gain

Three important skills need to be imparted in maxillofacial diseases 1. Diagnostic skill in recognition of oral diseases with radiographic diagnosis and their management 2. Research skills in handling scientific problems pertaining to oral treatment 3. Clinical and Didactic skills in encouraging younger doctors to attain learning objectives

Eligibility

Typically, to pursue an MD degree, candidates need to satisfy the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

  • Candidates should have obtained a BDS Degree from an institution recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
  • Candidate should have completed a 1- year compulsory rotating internship after passing the final professional examination which is BDS before 31st March of the academic year.

Candidates in possession of a BDS degree or Provisional BDS Pass Certificate recognized by the Dental Council of India or State Dental Council and having completed 1 year of internship or/ are likely to complete the internship on or before 31st March of the relevant year. A candidate must clear NEET-MDS exam in order to be

  • Eligible for admission to postgraduate Medical Courses for a particular academic year in case of General, General-EWS, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain a minimum of marks at 50th percentile in NEET-MDS (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) to Postgraduate Medical Courses held for the said academic year.
  • However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at the 40th percentile. In respect of candidates with Benchmark, Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for Unreserved Category & GEN-EWS Category candidates and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates.
  • The percentile shall be determined based on highest marks secured in the All India common merit list in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses

MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology: Syllabus and Course Description.

  1. Applied Anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology
  2. Diagnosis, Diagnostic methods and imageology and Applied Oral Pathology
  3. Oral Medicine, therapeutics, and laboratory investigations
  4. Essay/Dissertation
