Every year when the medical undergraduate or postgraduate admission process starts this big question arises in the mind of Reserved category candidates that what to select (Reserved or Open) while filling preferences form for the Maharashtra state counseling process in the Ear-Marking column, To clarifying their doubts & write this article right.

Ear-Marking Explanation.

Reserved category candidates entitled to admission on the basis of merit in an open category seat will have the option of taking admission either against his/her respective category seat or on an open category seat.

If he/she opts for the reserved category he/she will be deemed to have been admitted as an open category candidate and not as a reserved category candidate. One seat in the college where he/she was eligible for admission against an open seat shall be earmarked for a candidate belonging to the respective reserved category. Such an earmarked seat will be made available immediately to the successive reserved category candidate from the same category merit.

Admission under constitutional reservation seat will be governed by the Maharashtra Schedule Castes-SC, Scheduled Tribes-ST, Denitrified Tribes (Vimukta  Jatis)-VJ, Nomadic  Tribes -NT1 NT2 NT3 Other Backward Classes-OBC and Special Backward Category-SBC.

That means any candidate from the above category while registering or while choice filling for participating in the Maharashtra state counseling process select reserve. And incase there is a reserve & as well as an open seat of candidate choice candidate will be given a reserved seat and open seat will be earmarked for next student of their reserve category.

If a candidate selects or opted for open, a candidate will be given an open seat and the reserved seat will be earmarked for the next student of their category, so better select Reserved on Earmarking.

EAR Marking for EWS candidates -Since EWS candidates are those who belong to the Open category, the Earmarking option is not given to them for choice filling, EWS candidates will be considered for both open and EWS seats as par their merit & choices.
