Before I will explain you Maharashtra state reservation policy & MBBS seat distribution, please note that there are seat reservation for every region and also for girls.
Maharashtra have 3 regions
Rest of Maharashtra, Marathwada & Vidarbha
Every Region have its 70% regional quota & balance 30% is State quota.
30% seats are reserved for girls candidates in all the courses & in both 30% state quota and as well as in 70% Regional quota (This reservation shall be for all the categories like SC, ST, VJ, NT-1, NT-2, NT-3, OBC, SEBC, EWS & Common unreserved).
Example of MBBS seat distribution.
Lokmanya Tilak MEDICAL COLLEGE Medical college Mumbai have 200 seats
15% of seats goes to All India Counselling = 30 seats
Therefore Total Balance seats = 170
Seats distribution
1- PWD QUOTA-Out of Balance 170 seats 5% seats is reserved for Person with disability candidates (This reservation shall be for all the categories like SC, ST, VJ, NT-1, NT-2, NT-3, OBC, SEBC, EWS & Unreserved = 9 seats
2-Defence Personal Quota -A specified number of seats i.e.5% of the intake capacity, subject to a maximum of 5 seats in each Government Colleges are reserved for children of Defence Service Personnel and Ex-Defence personnel, including those permanently disabled or killed in action – total 5 seats
3-MKB QUOTA –Eight seats in Government Medical Colleges, two seats in Government Dental Colleges and five seats in Government Ayurvedic Colleges in Maharashtra are reserved for the candidates belonging to Maharashtra-Karnataka Disputed border area candidates -no seat reserved.
4-Orphan Child Quota-Every Institute has 1% reservation for Orphan Category in 30% Open Quota, means 1% seat from 30% state quota in the open category reserved for orphans candidates -total 1 seat
5-Hilly Area reservation- 3% seats at Govt. Medical colleges (MBBS course only) are reserved for the candidates from the Hilly area. These seats will be distributed under 30% State quota & from 70% Regional quota. There will be constitutional reservation and female reservation-Total 5 Seats.
6-Scheduled Castes (SC) Quota – 12.50% = total 21 seats
7-Scheduled Tribes (ST) quota 7% = total 12 seats
8-Vimukta Jati ( VJ) quota-2% = total 3 seats
9-NomadicTribes ( NT -1) quota- 2.5%= total 4 seats.
10-NomadicTribes ( NT-2) quota- 3.5% = total 6 seats
11-NomadicTribes ( NT -3) Quota- 2% = total 3 seats
12-Other Backward Category (OBC) including SBC quota 17.5% – = total 30 seats
13-Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota – 9.5% = total 16 seats
14-Open To All (Unreserved)- 32.50% = total 55 seats.
