College Preference / Choice Filling in NEET Counseling

P.S. – The most important thing to keep in mind when you are doing College Choice Filling in NEET Counseling. – WHAT IS DONE CANNOT BE UNDONE.

DR WASIF MOALLIM (BDS).

Choice filling is the most crucial step in the Cet-Cell NEET-UG counseling process in Maharashtra. Once the choice is submitted, it gets locked and cannot be edited. If you chose your preference and sequence properly, you will be happy throughout the counseling process which usually takes around 2 months.

But by mistake, if you had added or made the sequence wrong then the whole counseling will be a mess and you will repent throughout the process. I have been closely watching the counseling process since last 4 years and would like to share my experience.

There are mainly two factors that should be kept in mind during choice filling in NEET Counseling.

  1. College distance from your hometown.
  2. Fee structure of the college, in the case of private colleges, verify fee structure directly on college website.

Common mistakes I witnessed during choice filling in NEET Counseling.

  1. The College code is a four-digit number with S or N suffix, specific for each college & course combination. The candidate should fill a minimum of one preference and maximum as desired. It is not compulsory to fill all Preferences. Suffix S indicates State quota (All seats of Government / Corporation Colleges & 85% each in Private Colleges / Minority Colleges), and N suffix indicates 15% Institutional quota in Private Colleges / Minority colleges.
Example of Suffix S & N Medical Colleges
  • The candidate should verify the fee structure of State / Institutional Quota Seats prescribed by Fee Regulating Authority, before filling online preferences.
  • The detailed fee structure of private and minority colleges should be verified on the college’s specific websites, as the fee structure prescribed by the fee regulatory authority includes only tuition and development fees.
  • Vedanta medical college, Palghar has high fees and students belonging to any category or caste can’t avail the Government scholarship. (no fee rebate for any category i.e SC, ST, OBC, EWS). In 2019 counseling after 1st selection list, Cet-Cell had given chance to delete only Vedanta medical college, as many candidates has unknowingly made the choice.
  • The candidate can fill online preference form multiple times before clicking the submit button. Once the submit button is clicked, then there is no provision to change the preference(s). For second and subsequent rounds, including Mop Up round no separate online preferences will be filled by the candidate.
  • These preference(s) will be used for 1st round and subsequent round(s) including the Mop-Up round of selection / upgradation (if any). Upgradation in subsequent rounds, including the Mop-Up round, is compulsory. The choices of courses and colleges, once entered shall be final and irrevocable. This final data shall be used in the entire selection process for admission to first-year Health Science Courses for the academic year.

All the best for bright future ahead.
